{December 16, 2010}   Margazhi Day 1

It was a pleasant morning arise, that duty calls woke me little late though!

I cleaned the entrance of our house and made a small cute kolam (picture drawn out of rice flour) and lit two lamps in the entrance of our home and made my player to play the ‘Thiruppaavai – Andaal Paasuram’.

I make sure after i arise, I will always go to the pooja room(where deity’s are kept and worshiped) and will ignite the pooja lamps and will start the cooking by boiling a packet of milk. Once its done, then it is served to God and then we start our daily chores.

After a fresh bath, I planned to cook ‘Ven Pongal’, as it is auspicious to cook on the day 1 of Margazhi. First I washed the rice and the dal (how much needed) and then sauted it in ghee until it became little brown. Then the mixture is drowned in enough water by adding needed salt and kept in a pressure cooker and wait until we get three good whistles.

But today it was little watery so I had to drain some amount of water once the VenPongal was taken out and mix it well by smashing it well enough. On the side, take small amount of pepper, Jeera and some cashew nuts after garnishing it in little ghee and then mix all the contents in to the Ven Pongal and then it is ready to eat 🙂

Also I made ‘Pootu Kadalai with coconut Chutney for the Ven Pongal.

Quite a nice and quick morning to completed the entire task and get ready for work on time!! ( at least today 😉 )
